Digital Process Excellence

The Digital Process Excellence cluster consists of three groups of approximately 30 colleagues. Each group has its own specialty, with “digital processes” being the connecting factor. These groups are the Operational Excellence team, Product Lifecycle Management team and Manufacturing Execution Systems team. 

The Operational Excellence (OpEx) team improves processes in all sectors. We do this by means of both Lean and Six Sigma based methodologies, in which we combine the Japanese “search together for improvements” approach with the American “measuring is knowing” approach. Of course, we have added our own knowledge and experience which is reflected in our Business Performance Improvement approach, an approach that we are obviously improving continuously and which we have successfully applied in all sectors over the past twenty years. It is important to mention that we do not only design new processes, but that we also implement them: there is only improvement if the customer really notices it. Process improvements can often be achieved through a different way of organizing and prioritizing. “Automation” is also often a source of profit, which is why we have embraced Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Dynamic Case Management (DCM) as process improvement technologies and are able – together with the other parts of Atos – to provide solutions to be implemented using the RPA tools UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism and the DCM platform from Pega.

The Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) team also improves our customers' processes, but specifically in the Product Design domain. That is why our customers are mainly operating in discrete manufacturing. In addition, we also help our customers with software selection, preparing business cases and implementing PLM applications. For our projects we use our self-developed M4PLM methodology. Our focus areas are the Digital Thread, Production Preparation and Green PLM.

The Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) team also improves processes at our customers. These are the processes that take place in the factory itself. Our customers are operating in the discrete manufacturing, process and pharmaceutical industries. As with PLM, we also help our customers with software selection, preparing business cases and implementing MES applications while making use of our patented M4MES methodology. In addition to MES, our focus areas are also PIMS (PI OSIsoft) and IT/OT convergence.

 The PLM and MES groups have always been working together very closely. The team consists of a nice mix of highly experienced professionals and up-and-coming talent. Starters always work together with a senior during their first project. The ambience in the team is relaxed. People are taken seriously, because they are our most important capital. We pay a lot of attention to the development of our employees, both through training and through a variety of assignments.
